BIO
I graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in art, emphasizing photography. After shooting many stressful weddings and working in a photo lab for three years, I realized that being a wedding photographer may very well destroy my love for the medium and that I had to safeguard photography as my inspiration and passion. I took graduate classes at the San Francisco Art Institute and at John F. Kennedy University but decided that rather than go into extreme debt, I would forgo a master’s degree and just continue to make art. I have participated in art exhibitions throughout the Bay Area for many years and will continue to do so.
On the career front, I eventually decided to explore a career in Graphic Design which ended up being a perfect fit. I went to night school while working and birthing children and received a Certificate in Graphic Design from UC Berkeley. I was able utilize my creativity, photographic skills and writing (I started at UCSB with a major in English) in print and web communications and actually make money doing it! As we all know, most artists have a hard time getting to the "making money" part. I have now worked for International House, UC Berkeley for over 20 years in communications and design (print and on-line). I have lived in California for most of my life and currently reside in Lafayette with my husband Alex, and three fabulous daughters who are currently in college or recently graduated from one. Our house has a constantly rotating door, which is always open to family and friends.
And now, yet another journey begins! Life is all about the journey and what you get out of it; All that you embrace and how it encourages you to grow, right?
My recent work is the culmination of transforming a few of the hundreds and hundreds of photographs that I shot on recent travels into rich visual experiences to share with others. I strive to create pieces that spark a memory, experience or desire that is somehow familiar and that we all share; a narrative that beckons to the viewer and encourages them to open their minds and to create an experience of their own.
I’ve always been fascinated with the past and the artifacts that are left behind as time goes on; the world of surrealism, the stuff that dreams are made of and creating a truly unique, mysterious and magical conversation that can occur between an artist and the viewer.
And so, I invite you to join me at one of my exhibition receptions to experience moments of my visual journey and hopefully take with you the inspiration to embark on one of your own.
